Acrylic copolymers are known for their outstanding durability, resistance to atmospheric corrosion, resistance to ultra violet degradation, adhesion and color retention.  These characteristics make acrylic resins suitable for use in waterproofing formulations.  Centri Coatings and Systems Corporation has formulated a series of masonry sealers using a special combination of acrylic copolymers and penetrating carriers.  Additionally, the formulations contain fungicides which inhibit the growth of fungus, an efflorescence retardant that virtually eliminates the unsightly chalky appearance of efflorescence.  If requested, a “flattening” compound can be added to adjust the “sheen” to the desired appearance.

CSC-99-14 Acrylic Sealer, as shown below, is 14% resin solids.  The viscosity has been controlled to offer good penetration at high solids.  There will be a slight darkening of the surface and possibly a slight sheen, depending on the type of surface being sealed.  The sheen can be adjusted, if desired, upon request.  CSC-99-14 is a one-application sealer for most porous concrete surfaces, concrete block, and brick surfaces.

1.Surface must be clean and dry.  Dust and grit in crevices must be removed before application of sealer.  If caulking, repointing, or brick repairs are necessary, make sure appropriate cure time has been allowed (72 hours for new mortar) before sealing.
2.Apply at temperatures above 40 degrees Fahrenheit.
3.Sealer can be applied using a brush, roller or sprayer.  Surface should be thoroughly soaked, but not over-flooded, resulting in loss of sealer.  On “fluted” or decorator-type block, make sure all crevices are coated for good penetration.
4.The surface will appear darker just after application.  Most surfaces will be unchanged upon drying.
5.Coverage: The coverage of CSC-99-14 will depend upon the porosity of the surface, the applicator’s technique, and the number of coats used.  The following chart indicates the estimated coverage (square foot/gallon of sealer for 1st coat) using the sealer on different types of surfaces.  The second coat, when necessary, will increase coverage by approximately 50%.

It is recommended that a test on a small area be run before application begins to provide information concerning coverage and appearance.
6.The dry time will depend on the porosity or absorption rate of the surface.  In general, the surface will be dry to touch in 10 minutes and dry in one hour.  The odor of the solvent will be prevalent for 2 -3  hours, depending on air circulation.


Architectural specifications for this sealer is available upon request.  Briefly, the specification would be written as follows:
“The surfaces of [name of structure to be sealed] shall be sealed to prevent moisture damage.  Surfaces shall be clean and dry before sealer is applied.  The sealer shall be CSC-99-14, manufactured by Centri Coatings and Systems Corporation.  Applicators must follow application instructions as provided by the manufacturer.”


Combustible!  Contains Aliphatic type solvents!  Keep away from heat and open flame and use only with adequate ventilation.  Avoid any prolonged breathing of vapor of spray mist and prolonged or repeated contact with skin.  IN CONFINED AREAS:  Workmen should wear fresh airline respirators to avoid breathing concentrated vapors.  Adequate fresh air must be circulated during application.  Hypersensitive persons should wear gloves or use protective cream.  Workmen should be required to use non-ferrous tools and wear conductive and non-sparking shoes in areas where explosion hazards exist.  All lights and electrical equipment should be explosion-proof.  Keep container upright to prevent leakage, and keep closed when not in use.  In case of spillage, collect and dispose of in accordance with local applicable regulations.  In the event welding or flame cutting is performed on empty containers of this product, do so in accordance with instructions in USA Standard Z49.1 “Safety in Welding & Cutting”.  

FIRST AID:  In case of skin contact, flush with plenty of water.  For eyes, flush with plenty of water for 15 minutes and get medical attention.  If affected by inhalation of vapor, remove to fresh air.
